Friday Fun

Happy Friday! Since you all know that there isn’t much going on in the training front, I thought I would share a few random things that I am excited about this week.

  1. Stitch Fix. Thanks to the monthly twitter/Instagram fashion shows from Kimi, I have been curious about this for a while. Monday afternoon during my lunch break a bout of severe lack of productivity, I signed up. The good news? Shopping done for me! Hopefully resulting in getting out of my fashion comfort zone a little bit. The bad news? My first “fix” doesn’t come until January 2nd! This means I have to wait until after the holidays for fun new threads. {Shameless plug alert} In case you are curious and/or want to register (and want me to get $25 credit for doing so), here is my referral link: https://www.stitchfix.com/referral/3303789
  2. Green Bay. Brad and I are in Packer land for the weekend visiting friends. I can’t say I am all that excited about Green Bay itself but I am excited to spend time with our friends, Dustin and Kim (and little cutie Mays), and to have a fun long weekend away.
  3. Thanksgiving. I could totally live without turkey, dressing, pies, etc. (don’t shoot me!) so that’s not why I am excited about Thanksgiving. What I can’t live without is my family and Brad and I are going to Texas to see them for five days next week. Warm weather, family and time off to relax is a winner!
  4. Crockpot meals. One of the only great things about colder weather is that it becomes perfectly acceptable to eat soup, chili or other crockpot creations multiple times a week. I love this cream cheese chicken chili recipe and have already made it twice this year (once for Jenny, CT and Liz). This week I also made barbecue pork in the crockpot, which also makes great pork tacos as a second meal. Easy homemade dinners FTW.
  5. Race Planning. I spent some time this week doing research into a half Ironman this summer. I have been contemplating Racine for a while now as the race to chase sub-5:00, but had not yet put much time into it. Things I learned: It is 14 weeks after Boston. If I can squeeze in just one bike and one swim most weeks in the second half of Boston training, this is PLENTY of time to prepare. It is 12 weeks before Chicago. This leaves plenty of time to focus on 26.2 since I will be starting with a 15-mile run base during 70.3 training. Racine is less than 1.5 hours from Chicago making this almost like a hometown race, which means I can ride the course at least once prior to race day. Conclusion: logistics are a “go”. The sub-5:00 part? Yikes! Will be HARD. Especially since it can be hot and the swim in Lake Michigan can be brutal.
  6. Lincoln Park Athletic Club. I finally joined a gym! I have resisted since we moved here because #1 It’s crazy expensive (compared to Greenville) and #2 This summer I had my bike and access to a pool through the Chicago Master’s program for cross training. I also have a yoga studio membership. But I want gym access so that in the worst case weather scenarios this winter, I will have the treadmill option to train. Plus, while I am not really running much, I can go to spin classes and check out the strength training classes. Bonus: It’s only 1 block from my house and I also get access to one other location. I chose the one Jenny is a member at, so hopefully we can take a class or two together :)

That’s all folks! Unfortunately work is turning into a “hurry up and wait” cycle lately, so things get PSYCHO for a 1/2 a day, then go back to waiting for responses for equal or greater amounts of time. The downtime is great, but the stress of the “on” time might drive me insane. Have a great weekend!!

Wahooooo! Let’s go to spin class together and leave sweaty puddles on the floor. You’ll probably kick my a** though. :) Have a good holiday!

    • Corey says:

haha! Yeah…I am kind of a wimp at spin class. For some reason, I just don’t like to suffer that much :) Also, I forgot to tell you but in 30 days, you will get $30 (or $25?) off your monthly rate since you “referred” me!!

I’ve been so anxious to try Stitch Fix ever since I first heard about it! But I need to pay off some bills first :)
Will you show us any items when you get your first shipment?

  3. elizabeth says:

if it wasn’t for my dogs expensive bills so far, I would be all over stitch fix. I will look at it in the winter after christmas…also, crockpot recipes sound great!!

  4. ErinAMG says:

lots of good stuff going on in your parts! very exciting :)

  5. I have had some great boxes from StitchFix and some that were so so. Hope you love yours!! AWWEEE I wish we were going to see some family :( have fun…I will be eating stuffing!

  6. I just ordered my first Stitch Fix a few weeks ago too! Was bummed that I couldn’t get one till January though. I was hoping to be able to check it out first hand to decide whether a gift card for some Christmas gifts was a good idea. OH WELL, I think I’ll survive waiting for a box of clothes to arrive till January :)

  7. ooo, stitch fix *almost* makes me want to get a “real” job again so i can have an excuse to wear “real” clothes. :) can’t wait to see what you get and how you like it!
i’m obsessed with the crockpot! we just made spaghetti sauce in ours this weekend. i love that it makes the whole house smell delish and the clean up is a breeze!!
enjoy recovery and cross-training. i’ve been going to pure barre for about a month and i do think the focused core work is helping.
hate that we won’t get to see y’all in TX this year! hugs and happy thanksgiving!!
