This isn’t the race report, yet! All (way too many words) of it is complete, but I am hoping for some race pics to be posted early this week so I can include them, since I don’t have any spectator pics!
Countdown to B2B: 1 week (Week of October 15)
I have to admit I was really surprised to see what my training plan had scheduled for this week. Since I still wasn’t feeling recovered on Sunday, I decided to drop out a run and all but short bits of intensity. I felt it was more important to feel completely rested than anything.
Monday – 1300 yd swim: I went to the pool with the intention of doing 1800 yds. but thunder and lightening cut it short. This was probably one of the only times that I wouldn’t have been bothered in the least bit by cutting it short!
Tuesday - 16.9 mile ride, ~1:05, 15.6 mph: It was freezing when Jenni and I started this ride. I was covered head to toe in clothing and still didn’t warm-up for nearly 30 minutes. We took it super easy, but my legs felt really fresh. We both commented that we can’t remember the last time we had a ride in the 15 mph range.
Wednesday – 3 mile run w/1 mile @ HMP: It is so weird to only run 3 miles! Walter went with me and as always during taper, the run was not near as confidence boosting as I think it should be. I had a hard time getting my legs going for the faster mile in the middle. I finally ended the mile at 7:48 min/mile, but it definitely felt way harder than it should based on the amount of rest I have had this week!
Thursday – 10.8 miles, 41:30, 15.6 mph: Last ride before leaving for Wilmington! I rode from my house, which involves a lot of stopping and starting at stop signs, lights, etc. but once I got into the park, I did 3 loops, with the 2nd loop at tempo pace. My legs felt pretty good, but my lungs felt a little congested and like I was working really hard to breath. Once again, another taper training session that dents the confidence!
Friday – 20 min bike + short swim:
Saturday - Beach to Battleship 70.3: 5:07:40 - Race report coming soon!
Sunday – REST & Celebrate!
- Swim = 2300 yds
- Bike = 93.2 miles
- Run = 16.1 miles
- Time = 8 hrs.

Can’t wait to read all about the race! I love how you wrote it was weird to run only three miles–life of a triathlete right there.
