Countdown to B2B: 12 weeks
I cut back the workouts this week to prepare for Lake Logan International Tri on Saturday. It was only my 3rd Olympic Distance race ever. It was an awesome race and I was really happy with how it went! Race report coming soon…
Monday – 1 mile OWS: I had to take full advantage of my last morning at the lake (and my access to kayak support!) to get another OWS in before heading home. It was MUCH calmer since all the weekenders were gone and I felt stronger in the water. I definitely noticed how much more swimming in open water takes out of me than in a pool though…1600 m in a pool feels pretty light but in the lake, it wears me out!
Tuesday – 1 hour trainer ride (~17 miles): We got back from traveling at almost midnight on Monday night, so an early ride wasn’t happening. Then it rained ALL DAY Tuesday so instead of risking heading out after work and getting caught in the rain, I decided to spin out easy on my trainer and watch some Olympics coverage. The trainer is pretty boring, but I worked up a decent sweat and was glad to get my legs moving.
After the ride, I was inspired to give my bike a good cleaning and put on my race tires for the weekend. Last time I tried to change out my tires by myself, it was a huge disaster, but this time it was a success! It’s also a good confidence booster that I do, in fact, know how to change a tire and shouldn’t panic if I flat!
Wednesday – Easy 5 mile run (9:21 min/mile) + Master’s Swim 2350 yds: I don’t remember the last time I felt this tired and sluggish before a run and never really woke up or snapped out of it. I took Walter for the first three and tried to keep the effort easy, expecting that my legs would eventually warm-up and the slow (for me) pace would become a little faster with the same effort. Nope. Never happened. I can’t say I didn’t enjoy the run or that I felt bad, I just felt off the whole time.
It was fun to be back at the pool and see my swim friends! We spent the first 1/2 of the workout chatting and not pushing too hard, but by the second 1/2 we got down to business and got some good sets in.
Thursday – 20 mile bike, ~1:11 (16.4 mph): Morning ride with Char & Jenni! First time we have had a morning ride together in a long time! Felt pretty good but still having issues with my saddle that I need to workout.
Friday – Easy 3.21 mile run (8:59 min/mile): Met Char early to run a few miles and to transfer her bike and her pup, Callie, to me so we can leave right after work tonight for Asheville! We took Cal for the first couple of miles then finished off pretty easy, just chatting and not paying attention to pace or time.
Saturday – Lake Logan Triathlon: 1500 m swim, 24 mile bike, 6.2 mile run: 2:21:01 (Race report coming soon. Waiting for pictures!)
Sunday – Easy 6 mile run (9:17 min/mile): Was definitely not excited about rolling out of bed for this run and I wasn’t sure how sore I would be. A few steps out of bed and a quick stretch told me that I was surprisingly fine, with no soreness! I took the run super slow, but my hip/IT felt pretty tight, so I foam rolled and stretched a ton afterward.
